KEAN XCHANGE COAT DRIVE RECAP
The One Warm Coat and Kean XChange Coat Drive was a success. After accepting donations for around three weeks, close to 100 coats, jackets, hats, and gloves were collected. The donated items were taken to Trinity Christian Center in Elizabeth, where they will benefit men, women, and children in the immediate community that have a need for these coats. The Center also puts together various outreach programs to ensure that those who need to receive a warm coat will get one.
Kean XChange organized the coat drive through the One Warm Coat Organization. The One Warm Coat campaign has been operating since Thanksgiving weekend in 1992. The nonprofit organization began in San Francisco and has been spreading throughout the country ever since. The goal is “to collect coats to give to those in need, free of charge.” Around 3 million coats have been donated and distributed since beginning almost 20 years ago. The Kean University family helped that number grow even larger. According to One Warm Coat, “an estimated 671,850 Americans experience homelessness on any given night.” Especially in the winter, that can be a brutal struggle. Thank you for your help. The donations will directly influence your local community.
